Metakino #5: Economy - international online edition
Helsinki's Metakino Festival goes online with a special international fifth edition focussing on films dealing with the economy.
The opening film (June 24) is Pere Portabella's post-2008-crisis report INFORME GENERAL II: EL NUEVO RAPTO DE EUROPA (2015): this and Richard Brouillette's L'ÉNCERCLEMENT (2008) will be followed by a talk by Quinn Slobodian (Wellesley College, author of Globalists: The End of Empire and the Birth of Neoliberalism, Harvard 2018) and Ntina Tzouvala (University of Melbourne, author of Capitalism as Civilisation: A History of International Law, Cambridge 2020).
Another theme of the programme is the language of the economy, which will be looked at in TALKING MONEY (Sebastian Winkels, 2017), FÜHRUNG (René Frölke, 2017) and EIN NEUES PRODUKT (Harun Farocki, 2012). These films will also be discussed by guest filmmakers and scholars.
The programme closes with two rarely seen Finnish films: MAA (Earth, 2001) and TYÖVÄENLUOKKA (The Working Class, 2004) by director Veikko Aaltonen. All films are free to stream on www.metakino.org and will only be available from 2pm to 10pm CEST on their respective screening dates.
