Conversation with Maria Schrader of UNORTHODOX - LAJFF

Join the Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival (LAJFF) for an online discussion, via Zoom Webinar and Facebook Live, with Maria Schrader, director of the critically acclaimed Netflix series UNORTHODOX.

Inspired by Deborah Feldman's bestselling memoir, Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots, the four-part NETFLIX limited series follows Esther Shapiro, (Shira Haas), a young Hasidic woman who chooses to flee her loveless arranged marriage and her home in her tight-knit religious community in Brooklyn, New York for a new life in Berlin.
An introduction by Consul General Stefan Schneider of the Federal Republic of Germany will precede the conversation with Maria Schrader, moderated by LAJFF's Executive Director Hilary Helstein.

Sponsored by the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, and presented in partnership with Jewish Journal, the Villa Aurora; Thomas Mann House e.V., and the Goethe-Institut.
