With the globally increasing use of social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and Weibo, the public sphere has expanded into the digital space. In the context of the corona-crisis and the according limitations of public space, social media gain new meaning as catalysts for social debate and protest culture. What kind of chances and risks does the shift of social discourse into the digital space involve for democratic culture?
