Robert Schuman is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Romantic Era. The Three Romances were a Christmas gift to his wife Clara in 1849, one of the most productive years of his entire career.
The lied Der Nussbaum (The Chestnut Tree), on a poem by Mosen, is part of the song cycle Myrthen given by the composer to his bride on their wedding day. Träumerei (Dream), from the Kinderszenen composed for piano in 1838, is one of Schumann’s most famous compositions, and the epitome of romanticism in music.
