Virtual Concert of Beethoven’s “Ode to joy”
“Ode to joy” is one of the world’s most identifiable tunes composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. The lyrics represent peace and universal brotherhood against challenging threats. Germany-based Singaporean conductor Kahchun Wong has brought together a multi-generational virtual orchestra of first-class international artists alongside local rising talents from South-East Asia in a musical movement of global solidarity amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The video launch also kick-starts an inclusive worldwide campaign for short musical submissions of ‘Ode to Joy’ from the global community, many of whom are currently isolated at home. JOIN OUR VIRTUAL CHOIR by recording your very own rendition of “Ode to Joy”. Your entry will be a 1-minute social media clip showing you singing, humming, whistling or playing a musical instrument. Submissions will be integrated into a virtual concert on the occasion of the start of Germany’s EU-Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1st of July at a time when Singapore continues to hold the role of coordinator for ASEAN-relations with the EU.
